Meramu Alam Nusantara Foundation

The Meramu Alam Nusantara Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to ecosystem conservation, community-based climate change mitigation and adaptation, and green economy development in Indonesia. The foundation is officially registered in Indonesia with the goal of driving nature-based solutions and community empowerment for long-term sustainability.

Meramu was founded to address the need for collaborative space and equitable financing for projects that promote ecosystem restoration, climate resilience, and improved community well-being. Through a landscape-based and participatory approach, Meramu bridges local knowledge, science, and concrete action on the ground.

Mangrove Conservation

Working Principle

  • Carrying out conservation and empowerment programs fairly and responsibly, by upholding the values of mutual respect, trust, and equal partnership between the foundation, local communities, implementing partners, and program supporters such as donors and carbon investors.
  • Focus on real action on the ground, especially in areas with minimal intervention or inadequate support from other parties, while still paying attention to local needs and potential.
  • Respect local cultural values, traditional wisdom, and maintain a politically neutral and independent position in carrying out the organization's mission.
  • Establish collaborative partnerships with various parties — from indigenous communities and farmer groups, local governments, the private sector, NGOs, to national and international institutions — in the spirit of mutual cooperation and sustainability.
  • Contribute to the capacity building of individuals, community groups, and implementing partners through training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer relevant to local needs and contexts.
  • Conduct continuous monitoring, evaluation, and learning on project impacts, with reference to Climate, Social, and Biodiversity indicators (CCB Standards) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to continuously refine strategies and increase the effectiveness of implementation in the field.

WHY WE HAVE COMPETITIVESS COMPARED TO OTHERS

  • We uphold transparency and accountability in fund management, benefit sharing, and risk mitigation for all partners—from local communities and project developers to carbon investors and donors. We ensure the entire process is openly documented, reported, and audited.
  • We are committed to ensuring the security and sustainability of socio-environmental investments by directly assisting project implementation on the ground, developing equitable, long-term collaborative agreements, and providing data-driven monitoring systems to ensure tangible and measurable impacts.
  • Our implementation approach is strong on three main pillars:
(I). Active engagement of local communities, with a focus on empowering women and youth groups as key drivers of conservation and a green economy.
(II). Development and scaling up of proven models, including existing and past agroforestry and mangrove projects.
(III). Close collaboration with local implementing partners, who deeply understand the social, cultural, and ecological conditions of the region.
  • We integrate modern monitoring technologies, such as drones and geographic information systems (GIS), to ensure accurate land mapping, vegetation cover assessments, and regular reporting of restoration activities and environmental impacts. This technology strengthens our credibility in carbon credit reporting and data-driven decision-making.
